A modern new cafe, part of a $1 million redevelopment at Polynesian Spa, is due to open in late September.
The geothermal bathing complex has undertaken multiple renovations over the last three years, with the latest addition the most significant in terms of first impressions.
Polynesian Spa chief executive GertTaljaard said elements of geothermal energy, native timber, concrete, and stone had been used throughout the space.
"The new cafe will lift the entire experience, welcoming visitors at the entrance with an open and modernised space - turning the current counter positioning 180 degrees to become the face of Polynesian Spa.
"We've incorporated plenty of seating options, even if you're a tad wet after emerging from the waters, with banquette seating, communal and group table settings, bar leaners, as well as lounge areas and countertops with USB charging points for visitors to use," he said.

Mr Taljaard said the design complemented the heritage of the building, which was registered with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust, and elements still existed from the 1930s.
"The terracotta roof tiles, for example, will be incorporated into the cafe by using similarly toned tiles to form a ledge by our lounge seating, with New Zealand hand-made glazed terracotta tiles in the servery, as well as feature lighting throughout the cafe.
"Sustainably sourced new and reclaimed heart rimu furniture, and table tops made from New Zealand bluestone features throughout the interior, while honed terrazzo comprised of locally sourced river stone and aggregate will tile the floor."
The cafe courtyard transformation would see the space introduce banquette seating along the walls and geothermally heated seats.
"Black stained cedar louvres and exterior cladding will be used to create a naturally evolving space," Mr Taljaard said.
Recent investments include introducing a new lakeside pool, modernising both the men's and women's changing rooms, a new reflexology walk and cold plunge pool, and updating of the family pool area.
At a Rotorua Lakes Council Strategy, Policy & Finance Committee meeting today, councillors discussed a price increase for admission to the spa. The public and media was excluded from this section of the meeting.
