Six million dollars per year for next three years set aside

New and innovative initiatives that support whanau to be successful are being called for by the North Island Whanau Ora commissioning agency, Te Pou Matakana.

Te Pou Matakana announced the call for expressions of interest for collective impact for whanau.

Six million dollars per year for the next three years has been set aside for commissioning by potential Whanau Ora Partners including community groups, professionals, iwi and organisations from multiple sectors, to deliver new services aimed at achieving large-scale social change for whanau.

Te Pou Matakana board chairwoman Merepeka Raukawa-Tait said the independent agency had worked with Whanau Ora stakeholders to come up with a commissioning-for-results model aimed at solution-focused funding.

"Traditional methods for solving social problems aren't working. Too many organisations are working in isolation from one another. Collective Impact for Whanau brings people together, in a structured way, to achieve social change.

"We would like to work with Whanau Ora Partners to help them design and deliver initiatives that are best targeted to meet the long term needs of whanau, as well as their immediate and emergent needs.

"The vision of Te Pou Matakana is 'supporting successful whanau' and we will ensure every dollar spent aims to build whanau capacity and capability."

Ms Raukawa-Tait said Te Pou Matakana takes an innovative, whanau-centric approach to commissioning. "We work with whanau best interests in mind and bring resources closer to whanau and communities we serve."

"Whanau Ora shifts the focus from individuals to collectives, from sectoral interventions to inter-sectoral collaboration, from crisis intervention to capability building and from process indicators to measures of outcome.

"We know that what we do is not just for today, but for tomorrow, so we will ensure we operate with a view to the future - for future generations of whanau."

Expressions of interest for collective impact for whanau opened yesterday will close on November 6, at 12pm.
