Police have named the man who died following a crash near Edgecumbe yesterday.

Police have named the man who died following a crash near Edgecumbe yesterday.

He was Owen Alexander Materi, 24, of Edgecumbe.

He was rushed to Whakatane Hospital after the two-car crash on Te Teko Rd between Edgecumbe and Te Teko at 12.45pm but died a short time later.

The driver in the other vehicle had minor injuries.

Police said in a statement their thoughts were with Mr Materi's family at this difficult time.

The Serious Crash Unit continue to investigate the crash and would like to speak to any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police.
