Tickets have gone on sale for a massive summer concert in Taupo featuring three legends of classic rock - Lynyrd Skynyrd, Starship and 10cc.

The Summer Concert Tour will be on Saturday, February 8 at the Amphitheatre in Taupo with tickets costing $89 for locals and $99 for everyone else.

Concerts will also be held at Matakana, north of Auckland, and in Queenstown in the same month.

Promoters Greenstone Entertainment said it would be the first time in New Zealand for the classic rock legends. Greenstone Entertainment's Amanda Calvert said it was a "not to be missed experience".

Last year more than 14,000 people enjoyed the Taupo Summer Concert which featured Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, Bachman and Turner and America.

Taupo Mayor Rick Cooper said he was looking forward to some "rocking good times and another full house in 2014".

"We look forward to our guests discovering all the area has to offer, including the natural beauty of Lake Taupo, Huka Falls and other tourist attractions, as well as our fantastic cafes and restaurants," he said.

American rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd shot to fame in the 1970s as a result of their driving live performances and signature tunes like Sweet Home Alabama, Free Bird, and Saturday Night Special.
