Police investigating the death of a motorcyclist in the Galatea area say the motorcyclist was stationary at the time of the crash.
Whakatane Sergeant Ray Wylie told the Rotorua Daily Post this morning the motorcyclist died at the scene from his injuries.
Police are currently in the process of notifyingnext of kin.
Mr Wylie said the motorcycle and a utility were heading in the same direction on Galatea Rd near the Matahina Dam at 3.45pm on Tuesday when the crash happened. However, Mr Wylie said the motorcylist was stationary at the time.
The road was closed following the crash with diversions in place and was reopened just before 7.30pm.
