Motocross: Lamont happy with his UK debut

Mangakino's Kayne Lamont has wasted no time since his arrival in the United Kingdom.

The 22-year-old - who races for the Altherm JCR Yamaha Racing Team in New Zealand but is riding for the MX Zone Turvey Construction Yamaha Team in the UK - described his first race meeting in England at the weekend as a "safe first outing".

Lamont finished the day fourth overall in the MX2 (250cc) class at the fifth round of the British Masters Motocross Championships at Foxhills, near Swindon, at the weekend - , the former New Zealand MX2 champion extremely satisfied to finish 5-3 in his two races.

It was his first serious event since injuring himself in Taupo in June.

"The track was so hard-packed and rocky, but I managed to stay upright.

"The racing was eventually cancelled not long after my second race because the number of injuries had the medics flat-out.

"As for myself, I went a bit better than I expected for my first outing. I was happy with how my riding was after having not raced 25-minute races for so long. My team were happy with my effort and so was I, to be fair. I stayed upright all weekend so I was happy.

"My injured wrist is not too bad now. I landed in a hole funny on the second to last lap in race one, which upset it a little, but nothing major.

"Since the classes were mixed, with MX1 and MX2 on the track together, I was racing alongside Kristian Whatley, Elliot Banks-Browne, Martin Barr, Steven Clarke and Bryan Mackenzie, to name a few, but the MX2 class was scored separately."

Lamont finished behind former GP rider Mackenzie, Clarke and Lewis Trickett in the MX2 class. His next big event is the British MX Nationals at Hawkstone Park, in Shropshire this weekend.

One of the biggest events on the world calendar is also in Lamont's sights.

He is one of three riders selected to represent New Zealand at the big annual Motocross of Nations in France in September.
