More heavy rain on way

A further severe weather warning has been issued for Rotorua and the Bay of Plenty, with the heaviest rain expected this afternoon.

MetService updated its warning at 9.13am today. It said in the five hours between 9am and midnight tonight, the region could expect a further 80-100mm of rain to accumulate about the hills and ranges, with 50-70mm possible elsewhere.

Peak intensities of 15 to 25mm per hour are forecast for this afternoon and evening, with possible thunderstorms.

The heavy rain is expected to ease tonight however further showers are expected tomorrow.
