Broadway is coming to Rotorua, bringing some of the greatest musical songs with it.

Modern Musicals, presented by Operatunity's Daytime Concert Series, will be at Rotorua's Baptist Church on July 8, featuring a selection of songs from musicals like Mamma Mia and Les Miserables.

Rory Nolan, who has previously played one of the leads in Mamma Mia at the Civic Theatre and has starred on the small screen in Shortland Street, will star in the concert. When he is not on stage, he is studying a conjoint law and arts degree at the University of Auckland. "Juggling university studies and a rigorous performance schedule has never been easy, but has been incredibly rewarding," he said. "Being so busy has sometimes made focusing on individual projects difficult, but has made for a varied and exciting several years."

He said he would love to perform in a professional musical production in the United Kingdom, especially London's West End theatre district. After completing the Modern Musicals tour Nolan will travel to the Netherlands to complete his final semester as an exchange student at Utrecht University.

"What is so fantastic about Operatunity is that they seek out both experienced and new singers, and provide them with a platform to perform professionally right around the country. The professional working experience I have had with Operatunity has proved to be an invaluable credit for getting further work, and I am very grateful for the faith they have shown in me."
