The power of social media has reunited three family photo albums with their owner.

A police media spokeswoman said the albums were handed in to the Reporoa police station this morning after someone had found them in the carpark of a local hot pools and realised they would have been very dear to the person who had lost them.

A photo from one of the albums was posted on the Bay of Plenty and Taupo Police Facebook page and the owner came forward within three hours.

Police said they wanted to thank the person who handed the photos in, and also to those who saw the post and provided information to lead to tracking down the owners of the photographs.
