The body of Taupo man Charlie Pick has been found by searchers.
The 65-year-old's body was found in water near the shores of Lake Taupo yesterday morning after an extensive air, land and water search.
Mr Pick was reported missing on Sunday night by his family. He
had left a party he was at in Acacia Bay to walk home to Vaucluse - about 6km away - but never arrived.
Constable Mark Bond said Mr Pick's body was found in water on the edge of the lake near Korukomoana Rd. The water was about waist-deep.
A Taupo team searching the lake edge and vegetation from Acacia Bay to the boat harbour found the body about 500m from the place he was last seen on Sunday.
He said there was thick scrub and bush "in a straight line" between where Mr Pick was last seen and the lake edge. Police did not know how Mr Pick got to the spot.
More than 50 people were involved in the search yesterday including search and rescue teams from the Taupo, Turangi, Rotorua, Whakatane and Taumaranui areas.
Mr Bond said police were thankful to those who had helped with the search.
Mr Pick's death will now be referred to the Taupo Coroner.
