Rotorua police are looking for a white 2006 Mercedes vehicle stolen from two men at gunpoint.

The incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday last week.

Detective Sergeant Mark Van Kempen said police were called to what he described as an aggravated robbery on Steeles Ln, Western Heights, when two men in their late 20s had the car they were driving in stolen.

Mr Van Kempen said three offenders, one of whom was carrying a firearm, took the car from the two men who ran into a nearby carpark until the offenders had driven away.

Neither victim was injured.

The stolen vehicle was a 2006 white Mercedes Benz, registration JFN431.

"Police believe that the incident was a one-off and was related to an earlier series of events.

"The public are encouraged to remain vigilant, but there is no reason for the public to be concerned of further offending or escalation."

Mr Van Kempen said inquiries were ongoing and no arrests had been made.

The vehicle is still missing and police urge anyone who may have information regarding the incident to contact Detective Jeff Alpe at Rotorua police station on (07) 348 0099.

To provide anonymous information call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
