Marist St Michael's continue the hunt for their first win in the Premier 2 competition when they travel to Ngongotaha today.St Michael's are sitting on the bottom of the table while Ngongotaha are fifth with one win out of two.

Last week Ngongotaha beat Poroporo 31-10 and St Michael's lost 18-5 to Waikite.

St Michael's coach Mike Lewis said there was always more feeling in a game when it involved local sides going up against each other.

"We all know each other and play each other pretty often, it's a bit of fun.

"As a team we are just trying to learn week-in, week-out.

"We made the step up to Premier 2 this year, we just scraped in there, so we just want to focus on ourselves and keep improving," said Lewis.

Although it could be tough going, it was good for the players to be challenged each week, he said.

"That's why you play sport I think, you want to see how good you are.

"We haven't won [against Ngongotaha] for a couple of years, they were the best team in Division 1 and didn't lose a game.

"They're a strong team with some really good players, it's a good challenge for us."

Ngongotaha manager Jared Grace said St Michael's were a team you could not let your guard down against, no matter where they sat on the table.

"Marist always proves to be a difficult side for us, irrespective of how they've been going during the season.

"Our clubs have a long association with each other, with guys like Dennis Beckett, a long-time servant of Ngongotaha rugby, who has coached the premier sides at both clubs," said Grace.

He believed St Michael's would be out to prove a point this weekend.

"They're really good at suffocating the supply chain for ball, so we know our forwards are going to have to be really good at securing, recycling and delivering quality ball for our backs to have any chance to strike.

"We've been focusing on our core roles, our core responsibilities, to ensure guys in other positions aren't needing to cover shortfalls."

Waikite, who are coming off the back of that 18-5 win against St Michael's, make the trip to Opotiki today.Opotiki have lost both games so far in Premier 2 but Waikite coach Kevin Lee knows they are strong at home.

"Picking up the win against St Michael's was the positive, the negative is we didn't get a bonus point.

"We'd have to get another two tries for that.

"Opotiki will be hard down there in their own place, they have a good forward pack, and a good set of backs from what I saw the first time we played them," said Lee.

Waikite won 41-24 when the sides met earlier this season, in Division 1.

"We'll need a little bit of luck and the right frame of mind.

"We played well as a group, as a collective, against St Michael's.

"The whole year has been about building as a team."
