"It's not really about where we are on the table, it's just about trying to improve," Lewis said.
On the back of an encouraging performance, despite losing 26-15, against Ngongotaha he was pleased with the progress his side was making.
"In the last few weeks we're getting better and better. We felt we played a pretty good game against Ngongotaha.
"We felt we had a chance there if we'd done a couple of little things differently, so it's about building on those and doing some things better."
He expected Opotiki to be out to prove a point this weekend.
"We went over there and had a pretty big win earlier in the season so I'm sure they'll be looking for redemption."
Meanwhile, Waikite host Whakatane Marist in what is potentially a must-win game for both sides.
Waikite will be eager to hold their position in the top four as they currently sit third on 10 points, while Whakatane are just one win behind in fifth place and on six points.
The pressure is on for both sides as a top-four finish will ensure they maintain their position in next year's Baywide Premier Competition.
Waikite coach Kevin Lee said his playersneeded to ensure they were taking on board what they had learnt from previous matches in order to be competitive this weekend.
"To win we will need to learn from the mistakes we made against Poroporo and adapt to the game speed and execution that Whakatane Marist will bring coming from playing against the premier sides.
"Our key focus will be taking grasp of the opportunity of where we sit at present, making the most of it and controlling and channelling the excitement and enthusiasm playing at home with a lot at stake.
"Looking at our upcoming schedule and our position on the table this game is a game that could determine our fate," said Lee.
Fourth-placed Ngongotaha won 26-15 in their local derby against Marist St Michael's last weekend and have used both the positives and negatives from that victory in preparation for their trip to second-placed Paroa.
Ngongotaha manager Jared Grace said the team had focused on keeping motivation and energy levels up this week.
"We had a bit of a solid encounter with Marist and from there we've taken some positives as well as looked at the negative things that we had with our own play.
"On Tuesday we looked at building on that positive team culture and used some game specific exercises to bring a bit of fun back into the mix.
"At the end of the day rugby is a game, you have to have fun with it or you lose that passion," Grace said.
With Paroa, Waikite and Ngongotaha all on 10 points, a win for either side would go a long way toward solidifying their spot in the top four.
However, Grace said his side's focus was purely on the result this weekend rather than what it would mean in the standings.
"Our main focus with Paroa is fighting to get the 'W'. Paroa were a very unlucky team to come down to the Premier 2 division.
"They have a strong roster and have had some strong results but injuries haven't favoured them this year.
"We are mindful that a lot of guys who couldn't complete their campaign at the tail end of their Premier 1 season will be back.
"In recent years Paroa have bought a lot of positive physicality to the way they play and they like to be very abrasive in contact."
In the Division 1 competition, seventh-placed Kahukura could make a move up the table with a win over sixth-placed Katikati.
Kahukura coach Wayne Fell said a win could be vital come the pointy end of the season.
"It's pretty much do or die for us, probably. We certainly need to win and probably win with a bonus point at the weekend [to make the top four]," Fell said.
Having rested players with "niggly" injuries last weekend, he expected to be able to field a competitive side against Katikati.
"We'll be pretty much at full strength this weekend. Last week in Ruatoki we sort of took the bare minimum. That sort of cost us in the end but we hope in the long run it will pay off.
"We won pretty comfortably against these guys last time but they've obviously improved since last time. You don't take anything for granted in this grade."
