She said the foot traffic had been down with the centre of town closed and they wanted to do something to encourage shoppers back into the city centre.
Fashion designers, Rotorua Weaving, Salon St Bruno, Beauty on Hinemoa, Fresh Noodle, Teal Cafe and the French Cafe are among the local businesses coming on board to make the event happen.
"People don't even know half of the creative things that are happening on this street," Ms Maxwell said.
"This is a chance for people to see what we have to offer."
Although it was designed to be a small event, Ms Maxwell said it just kept on growing.
"It's grown a wee bit as people keep coming on board."
She said they were already planning future events to get even more businesses involved.
Designed to have something for everyone, the models for the show are what Ms Maxwell described as "everyday people".
A mix of age and gender, shapes and sizes.
"Some of them might be emerging or newer models, others have done this before, but most of them are actually just normal people.
"They started practising on Saturday and they are going great so far."
Model Marlena Martin has been coaching them all through their walk and preparing them to take the stage.
"We really are lucky to have her," Ms Maxwell said.
Tickets for the event are $15 for general admission or $35 for a VIP pass and are available from Toa Maori - The Maori Shop on Hinemoa St.
Ms Maxwell said VIP tickets were selling out fast and spaces were limited.
VIP guests will be treated to a meet and greet at the Fresh Noodle shop before the show and be given a gift bag.
The show is on October 28 from 7 to 9pm at 1180 Hinemoa St.
