A Rotorua man who cut off his electronic monitored ankle bracelet and failed to appear in the High Court has handed himself in to police.

Alexander Hayden Mowbray failed to answer his electronically monitored bail when his name was called at the Rotorua High Court on June 21.

Justice Sarah Katz then issued a warrant for his arrest.

Mowbray was allegedly involved in a violent altercation during a drug deal on the outskirts on the city in October in which salt was substituted for P.

He appeared in the High Court at Rotorua today , where he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault with intent to rob.

Mowbray was one of five charged in relation to the alleged offence; one, Joshua Patrick Homan, pleaded guilty to assault and robbery and was jailed for seven and a half years in March.

Justice Katz remanded Mowbray in custody for sentencing on August 2.
