He said one of the residents knocked on his door after they became concerned they hadn’t seen him since Wednesday. It was then he was found dead.
Visions of a Helping Hand acting chief executive officer Sarah Isaac said it was a sad occasion and their thoughts and condolences were with the whānau of the client, who was respected and well-liked by other residents and staff.
She said Visions of a Helping Hand had an open-door policy for clients to enter their office to talk or to schedule an appointment when needed.
“Staff proactively check in on clients according to their needs, which range in seriousness and complexity. In this client’s case, on the last face-to-face engagement with VOHH, the client indicated he was well and there was nothing to suggest staff should be concerned. He said he planned to travel away for the holiday period, although he was yet to finally confirm that.”
