A man has died after a water-related incident near Moutohora Island, Whakatāne.
Emergency services were called around 9pm on Saturday after a man had been recovered from the water in an unresponsive state after jumping off the side of a boat.
Police Search and Rescue co-ordinatedthe response, with Coastguard Whakatāne volunteers attending the scene and a helicopter transporting the man to Tauranga Hospital.
Police said CPR was performed but efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
