Welcome to nzherald.co.nz's live stream of the Maadi Cup (officially known as the New Zealand Secondary Schools rowing championships).

This year's event is being held on Lake Ruataniwha, near Twizel.

There are 2108 pupils involved from 125 schools registered to take part, making it the biggest championships to date.

The actual Maadi Cup is contested in the boys under-18 eights. The name came from a camp New Zealand soldiers stayed at and rowed from on the Nile in Egypt during World War II.

The regatta was first held in 1947 on the Whanganui River.
