Tania Charteris is excited to chop off her hair on Sunday to raise money for Joshua Gallagher.

When Tania Charteris chops off her locks on Sunday it won't just be raising money for a special cause.

While the big cut is a fundraiser for local boy Joshua Gallagher, who has been fighting a brain tumour, Ms Charteris said she chose Father's Day to do the cut as a way of remembering her dad David who died of a brain tumour.

"It's a special day of remembering dad."

Ms Charteris had been thinking of cutting her hair off for some time and when she heard of the Gallagher family's story she decided to do it as a fundraiser for them.

Since his diagnosis Joshua has had four rounds of chemotherapy, spent extended periods of time in Starship Hospital and has had more than 40 general anaesthetics.

His mum and dad, Annemarie and Mike, are planning a family trip to Australia in September to celebrate Joshua's 5th birthday.

Ms Charteris said the support she had received was "remarkable". A raffle she was running as part of the fundraising had sold out but people could still donate money to the bank account set up for the family, she said.

A bank account has been set up at Westpac for donations. The account name is Joshua Gallagher Fundraiser, account number is 03 0415 071 6027 000.
