The NZ Transport Agency has been left with a clean-up job at the new Hemo Gorge roundabout after part of a logging truck flipped.
A police spokesman said they were called to the roundabout, on the corner of State Highways 5 and 30 at 7.50am on Friday morning. The tipped trailer was blocking one south-bound lane.
A Rotorua Daily Post reporter at the scene said the back trailer of the logging truck had flipped and there were logs scattered on the roundabout and down into the cycle lane and underpass.
Rotorua Lakes Council's transport team said the clean-up was being managed by NZTA.
NZTA Bay of Plenty Transport system manager Rob Campbell said it was continuing to assess the damage at the Hemo roundabout.
"So far we have established a barrier has been broken and a light pole, the fence around the underpass and the garden has been damaged.
"There have also been some gouges made in the road surface from the impact of the truck hitting the road."
He said the NZTA will continue to work with police while the cause of the crash is investigated.
