She says three or four artists will perform at each concert in the hotel's performance room, adjacent to Duke's Bar.
"It's got beautiful acoustics in there."
The finale concert will feature a headline act which is yet to be announced, and artists from the previous three concerts who received the Loudest Clap Award.
"Whoever has charmed their way with the audience will play again."
Karin says most performers were local, with one coming from Taupo.
"It gives people the opportunity to focus on original work and put their own songs together.
"It's a chance for them to play their own music and network with other musicians."
There will be a blackboard where people can add their name to perform a song, creating an informal, open mic feel but with some structure.
She says she enjoys seeing the musicians bathe in a bit of glory and getting the attention they deserve for original work.
"They get a spark in their eye."
This year the performances will be recorded, putting them together on a downloadable link, Karin says.
There will possibly be workshops held this year.
She encourages people to support the musicians and let them know their voice counts.
Rotorua's Jason Hamon is one of the musicians performing.
He is looking forward to playing in a new venue and says it will be good to test the waters on how his songs go down as he is looking to release a six-track EP later this year.
"It's always fun to jump on stage and share my music."
Jason says May Music Month Rotorua events bring the city's talented musicians together. Musicians can still apply to perform.
