Local singer Jordi Webber wants Rotorua's help to make top 10

Rotorua's Jordi Webber has high hopes of securing a top 10 spot on the New Zealand Music Charts when it is updated on Friday - but he needs the help of his home town to get him there.

Webber, who shot to fame as a member of boy band Titanium, launched his debut single I'll be Loving You on Friday and says the response so far has been "wicked".

"It was another of the best days of my life."

He said it was similar to hearing Titanium's first single, "but a bit more special".

"It's been really good. It's surprising to see how many people are supporting it."

Webber received a grant from New Zealand On Air to record the single and video. They provided him with $8000 and he had to put up the extra $2000.

"I'm just so excited and happy. I've worked for this, to have people listen to it."

This morning his single was sitting at 23 on the chart.

He said people could help him move up the charts by buying his song on iTunes or adding it to their Spotify playlist.

"Come Friday I hope to get in the top 10. To get number one is a bit of a long shot but to get top 10 would be awesome.

"Help a local boy get up there in the first week."

On Sunday he will release his music video.

Webber said the response so far had been "really cool".

"A lot of people are coming up saying they really like it. A lot of people might have been expecting something cheesy but I think I've given them something they weren't expecting."
