Lakeside 2014 is set to transform Rotorua's Village Green with live music, lighting displays and fireworks.

The annual concert, in its 18th year, will feature performances by Sol3 Mio, Jackie Clarke, Diamond Divas and locals Lizzie Marvelly, Olein Ona, Alayna Powley and New Zealand's Got Talent contestant Kylee Waaka.

With the title, The Bald, the Blind and the Beautiful, the event will be presented by Kiwi music legends Frankie Stevens, Eddie Low and John Rowles.

As well as "spectacular fireworks", concert-goers can expect to see a laser lighting display included in the show for the first time.

Event director Monty Morrison said the lasers would add something special. "I think it's something unique, a bit of a surprise for people," he said.

The lasers will project shapes onto trees around the concert area.

Mr Morrison said he expected the show to be a knockout, showcasing the fantastic musical talent Rotorua and New Zealand had to offer.

"We really want it to be a family-friendly event, with entertainment everyone can enjoy."

Thousands are expected at the concert, with all 880 tickets to the seating area at the front of the stage sold out, he said.

"We're expecting a good crowd. There's been a lot of interest this year, which is great to see."

Mr Morrison said he hoped for a sunny, balmy, evening.

MetService predicts a high of 23C for the day, with cloudy periods and a chance of drizzle.
