A $700 fine for poaching the King's trout (April 24) - an introduced pest fish that feeds on our rare native fish. If Fish & Game really cared about our environment it would stop protecting and breeding these fish and letting them loose in our waters.
The same goes forbreeding and protecting game birds. There's more pheasants, swans and ducks here than there are kiwi.

Redwoods recycling
As a daily visitor to the Redwoods it was good to see bright new recycling bins being installed near the Tree Walk entrance.
On a closer look it was noticed that all the wording on them were in English and Maori, not one illustration to show what items could be deposited in which particular bin.
As I'm sure we are all aware, looking at the many coaches that visit the Redwoods, there are many nationalities that arrive daily, with quite a number of them not overly familiar with the Maori or English language.
As proud as some of us might be with our bilingual city, please take a moment to consider the saying "a picture paints a thousand words" even bilingually.
Many folk who have large portfolios of property, bought in speculation of price increases and profit, comfort themselves knowing they are secure.
However, the words of Jesus dispel this notion: a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions, He said.
Jesus also said that it does not profit a person if they gain the whole world and lose their soul: Jesus spoke these words in the context of a story about a successful businessman, who one day congratulated himself on his wealth, and was called to die that same day.
He found that his wealth could not save him and Jesus called him a fool.
