The Road of Life is often confusing.

We are bombarded by fake news, false advertising, increased social division, continued racism and the rise of far-right fascism. Our belief in democracy and our political future is undermined by corruption and hypocritical conduct of those in power. What to believe?

But on the subject of cancellation of the Rotorua Rescue Helicopter we, as a community, must stand together regardless of political, social or religious views. That helicopter rescue service is essential. Regardless of race, creed or colour, it will come to help those in need. As a community, we must insist that our political leaders find the funding to maintain it. No mealy mouthed words or crocodile tears from our political leaders are acceptable.

If you stop to think for a moment about the injured, the sick and unfortunate in need, and our isolated rural communities the right decision is obvious. On any day, it may be you or your family in need. I urge every member of the community to email the office of the Prime Minister and insist this decision be reversed. Rt. Hon Jacinda Ardern: jacinda.ardern@parliament.govt.nz.

Re formerly homeless man Michael's story (Rotorua Daily Post, April 9).

More help is needed to help this trust with the much-needed work to be carried out. If they know what's needed then they will have the solution to help make this sad situation better.

Thank you for giving us this story, it gave our whanau a better insight and understanding, hearing stories from the ground is where it matters. It would be amazing to see council, iwi, church and community pulling together to help these vulnerable people - we need to support a night shelter especially during winter.
