The election has been decided and some are disappointed, others highly elated. Candidly I am mightily relieved.
The endless harking back to a past that clearly now the majority do not favour is in some ways sad but mostly it reflects unfavourably on those who seek to turn back the clock.
The world has moved on and so have most of the people in it.
While I didn't agree with most of their policies I do think the RDRR idea for a real Christmas tree was a winner. Let us please not have a slab of aluminium erected again and called a Christmas tree.
If the new council can't find the money take the hat around the community. I'm sure donations will be forthcoming.
We wish Mayor Steve and council every good wish - they have certainly done Mamaku proud these past three years. Council staff too are a credit to the city in every area of endeavour, beautification, water, roads, library, swimming pool, etc.
And let's not forget the men who have collected our rubbish year in and year out. The changes to the collection due at the end of the month might be a good time to leave the men something in appreciation.

Okay I got it completely wrong about the Sunday Market (Letters October 8). I admit, and I apologise.
When the weather improves it could be a good thing. I shall go frequently.
What I am not wrong about is the focus; that should be restored.
Of course, the other good thing about the Sunday Market - free parking.
