I have to strongly agree with Jim Adams (Letters, June 7) that Te Ngae Rd works are a confounded mess.
Having previously been on the NZ Transport Agency board for five years, in my view the Te Ngae Rd works project is the worst I have ever seen from a time and safety point of view.
The old saying of no pain, no gain has been true in the past, but I believe the current work in Te Ngae Rd has been all pain and no gain.
I have the greatest of sympathy for the businesses and road users who have to continue putting up with the unacceptable timeframe this work is taking.
I can accept NZTA spreading the work over two financial years, but I can't accept the unbelievable inefficient use of the coned-off spaces along the road. Some days, I see only three or four people working on the whole 3km of roadworks and we've seen cars backed up to Pak'n Save and along Sala St to Fenton St.
With very little lighting and old road makings clearly visible running in all directions across the temporary road lanes, I believe safety is a major issue.
I would have preferred to take my concerns direct to NZTA but its representatives don't return my phone calls.

On one hand, the Government is dishing out hundreds of millions of dollars on the homeless like it's got money to burn.
On the other hand, it won't give nurses a decent wage.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out which is the most important for the nurses and the country as a whole.
I will be backing the nurses all the way and I hope this strike brings the health services to its knees - then the Government might sit up and take notice .

It would be great if someone in our local football council could put feelers out to the Wellington Phoenix Club that we would love to see the lads play a game or two at the Rotorua Stadium next A-League Season.
I am sure we could pull in at least 15,000 spectators on a nice November or December night.
As a former football player and now a fan of the Phoenix, I think the team has done really well in the last two seasons, especially having to play in Australia for most of the games.
The young Kiwi and Aussie boys have really played well. We have a good team and, in my view, the best keeper in the league.
