Football was named by Rotorua Lakes Council as one of the codes being included in the Westbrook Precinct proposal.

As a result, Rotorua United AFC had been notified of the council's intent to move football from Neil Hunt Park, which has been based there since Rotorua Suburb members fundraised and put the work in to make it a football ground with clubrooms.

Our responsibility to our members is for both present and future provision and we are encouraged the council, recognising the current condition of playing fields across Rotorua, has also engaged with us about the immediate and medium-term needs for football provision, and are committed to looking at a variety of solutions.

RUAFC welcomes Rotorua Lakes Council reviewing its sports ground provisions across Rotorua.

Without a doubt, Rotorua needs sports field and recreation investment which future-proofs provision for all codes and recreation in the city.

We believe now is the right time to have a holistic review on what can be delivered for Rotorua's future success - accessibility to fit for purpose sport and recreation spaces for residents across Rotorua is a key part to a vibrant and healthy community and look forward to continuing to be part of these discussions.

City loses its focus

I am extremely upset at the waste of money on things that have put us in a backward motion and ruined our town.

For one, the boardwalk has ruined our view we had of our lovely Lake Rotorua and I believe all the extra piles put in will be a great hazard.

Cleaners and workers will have to clean up the weed after a storm with all the debris built up under the boardwalk and around the extra piles it sits on.

This will be an extra cost - and on top of the cost to maintain the expensive sculpture that was a waste of money.

The other main thing is the removal of the city focus centre.

I'm sure many businesses will agree with me that it brought more shoppers into the dying town centre, was a lovely place to sit in the shade and listen to the many singers and performers, it had an information centre, and there were those lovely pillar carvings and water features with greenery.

Best of all, the traffic flowed without a problem.

Now it is just a mess with nothing unique like we had.

Come on all you quiet ratepayers out there who think alike. Get behind me to get the city focus centre put back the way it was as it was so nice and very different from other towns.

Healthy home flaw

The new healthy homes law begins on July 1.

While unhealthy homes are horrific, the inspection of my near-perfect home failed.

The main rejection was the geothermal heating. There are six radiators installed in the house and in winter there is constant heat.

It is as warm as toast.

But the heating system must have a label stating the KW output and there must be a thermostat.

In my view, not only is this is unnecessary but would have an adverse effect on the system.

This is pertinent to some other Rotorua homeowners.

I was told I would have to install a heat pump.
