Thank you to the organisers of Lakeside 2018; the long-term planning and amount of work put in was obvious.

I was really looking forward to the evening of entertainment and bought tickets to sit in seats in front of stage to enhance the experience.

Unfortunately the evening was spoiled by a group of women sitting in the row in front of us.

They brought in a large chilly bin of alcohol and drank through the night, talking and laughing loudly and standing up during performances so we were unable to see the stage or enjoy the music.

Further along the row other people were standing and dancing so people in the row behind also couldn't see. We were unable to locate any security person in the seated area, to help remedy the situation.

I strongly recommend an alcohol ban at the venue.

Complaints

Over the last few days, we have had letters from A J MacKenzie with a complaint about the positions of hot and cold water taps (February 17) and from Reynold MacPherson grumbling about the Lakeside Concert (February 19).

It seems all must be well in Rotorua if these two regular critics can find nothing more serious to complain about.

So all the reports on child poverty, homelessness etc are presented. The State of the Nation has been put to us, and there is more money for this child project, this youth hand up and the word for the day is help the young ones.

Oh great, I have nothing wrong with this but all in all this hoo ha about these sometimes ungrateful young people, where is the caring and help for the elderly, disabled and able-bodied who have to exist fortnight to fortnight on the tiddly pittance we receive from the Government.

Sure we will get a sum to help us cover the power in winter - drip fed in the fortnightly hand out (not much use as it will be swallowed up in other bills) but I have a question to ask.

With all this hot weather this summer (when we can usually save a bit on the power) are we to make the decision to fry in summer or use the fan, so taking any savings for winter?

Do we die of hyperthermia or hypothermia?

Who knows who cares.
