Addiction to social media needs to be looked at, writes one reader. Photo / File

It seems to me that we live in an age that finds fear at every turn of life's road.

We need to constantly reaffirm our identity, our importance with selfies, we need me-time, time out, life coaches and perhaps there's a need to look closely at the role our addiction to social media has in all this.

I'm old enough to remember a time when we'd not hear from family or friends all day unless some dire emergency arose.

I guess, ignorance was bliss and it seemed life was much simpler and we just had to get on with it, make decisions and wear the consequences.

Impressed

My wife and I had our first Covid-19 injection on Tuesday.

In at 2.30pm; out by 3pm. I was most impressed with the set-up.

They expected to treat 400 people that day.

Local flooding issue

The massive flooding in Canterbury reminds us of the major flood event in Edgecumbe in 2017.

Perhaps now is a good time to ask the Bay of Plenty Regional Council how it is getting on with the remediation of stop banks and silted-up waterways, especially those originally slated for action back in 2010.

I fear the answer will be that our rates money has been spent not on yellow bulldozers and excavators, but on big empty yellow buses.
