I agree with Pauleen Wilkinson's views about obstructed vision at roundabouts (Letters, May 22).
These things should have clear views of all vehicles on the roundabout and approaching vehicles so the indicators signalling the intended direction can be seen well before the approaching vehicle is coming at you.
There are a few good examples of badly vision-impaired roundabouts in our area. The worst of all is that one at the Hemo Gorge intersection.
Not only has it got those stupid vision-blocking rails around it, but it also has a built-in distraction in the middle. In my view, very poor thinking, especially since those trees on the golf club boundary have been cut down. Think about it.
Another roundabout suffering from a similar affliction is the one at Paengaroa. Very poorly thought out by using shrubs. While these may look good when first planted, they are now at a stage they do the same as those stupid hard rails. I believe roundabouts should be constructed with clear, all-round vision, the same with the approach lanes.
