I am amazed at National Party leader Judith Collins' support of the Government's left-field move to allow houses to be built three storeys high.
Surely it cannot be that all National Party MPs agree with the removal of local body control of building standards when those councils must provide the associated essential services and support the aims of ratepayers and local business.
Counter-cries of nimby-ism when opposition to the policy of "Three Storeys Anywhere" surfaced ignore the pride that most Kiwis have in their property.
Okay, a large number of residents do not live in their own home but those that do have worked hard and steadily to achieve that aim. Is it wrong to be proud when arriving home to a tidy garden, mown lawn and well-maintained house?
Owners and tenants who look after their properties will look askance at people such as Collins and Minister Megan Woods who suggest it's okay for settled neighbourhoods to be ruined by tall and shading structures scattered throughout our suburbs.
