The Tourism Rotorua building and the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre.

It's great to hear that philanthropist Owen Glenn is making a very large donation to restore the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Theatre.
Now about the name, it is a bit of a mouthful. The late Sir Howard Morrison deserves to be remembered in his hometown but I am not certain that such a long-winded name for a theatre is the best way. A street or a reserve could be named after him.
Rotorua Civic Theatre is shorter and gives the location of the theatre.

Keep left
Regarding the issue of "cyclist versus pedestrians" as quoted in your letters (Jan 12) there is a simple solution to this problem. If both cyclists and pedestrians keep to the left, as do road vehicles, there should be no problem. Passing on the right and back to the left side of the path will avoid the ducking and diving when neither knows where the other is heading.
The same applies when walking in the busy city streets. There is nothing more frustrating when walking on the left side and you are approached by a pedestrian coming straight at you. Worse if they are pushing a pram. Try it. It works.

Football folly
July 30 1966. That date should ring a bell with all you ex-pats in Rotorua. It was the day England beat West Germany 4-2 after extra time to win the World Cup. Fifty-two years on and have we won it since? Not on your nelly! This year the World Cup is in Russia. Could we do the business? Dreams are free! We might get through to the first round - did someone mention Iceland?
To me the Premier League has been the downfall of our local lads making the grade in top football. Clubs would rather spend millions of pounds on European or African players. A few like Harry Kane, Dele Alli or Rasford break through but they are token English boys.
On a lighter note an "old" ex-team-mate of mine, who we shall call Wiremu, asked me to mention the three worst goalies to play for City in this order, Trev, Bert and Wagon Wheels. Actually two of the named are very good friends of Wiremu and one has the same surname.
