Dear the people of Rotorua.
We would like to thank you for your hospitality.
I recently won a mystery trip to Rotorua and we took the advantage of the trip last week.
We have worked in hospitality for around 50 years and travelled quite extensively. Never have we beentreated so respectfully. I admire the people from Rotorua who deal with thousands of tourists daily from the shop staff to the hotel cleaners. Nowhere were we ever treated with disrespect and I especially admire the staff at Te Puia.
Thank you Rotorua, I would like some of our Fiordland and Southern Lakes operators to take a look at your operations and see how customer service could be improved down here.
Debt millstone I have just read the Rotorua -Tatau Tatau Booklet for March.
It sets out what the council's plan is for the next 10 years, which is all very impressive until we reach the page at the end on borrowing. At this point my bull**** detector switches on.
I was led to believe the RLC was going to do something about reducing the debt that is like a millstone around the ratepayers' necks. But after reading this, one concludes that there is no sign of any debt reduction in fact the opposite is the case.
The only sign I have seen about reducing debt is that staff at the coalface, ie the workers, are told there is no money for this or that as part of their normal activities.
This council is as bad as previous ones in pouring money into projects that are useless or at best suspect, in my view.
