Ryan Gray (Letters, March 18) seems to have missed the whole point of my letter (March 16) ie that the embryo and developing baby if not a part of the mother's body, but a genetically separate being which the mother has no right to kill.
Sure, I agree, the mother should exercise autonomy over her own body, but not that of her embryo offspring. Let her exercise that autonomy before becoming pregnant.
Relevant to this is my own story. I would like to honour my own single, godly mother who, as a result of a moral lapse became pregnant in an age (1930s) when single motherhood was a disgrace.
Instead of taking the easy way out she chose not to abort me, or accept an offer of adoption. Instead, despite very meagre circumstances she chose to raise, love and cherish me all the days of her life.
