A headline in the Rotorua Daily Post (News, March 30) reads "Median Rotorua rent up 45 per cent in five years".

The reason is obvious; we do not have enough houses in Rotorua. The property management people are saying that they do not have enough stock.

The answer would appear to be very simple. To progress, Rotorua must build more houses.

Yet there are still splinter groups, and Nimbys in our city who decry any effort to advance the building processes and get the houses built. Instead, they criticise the efforts of the council and the developers and are determined to slow the processes down rather than speed them up with a constant cry of a lack of consultation, inadequate planning.

My plea to our council is simple. Please ignore these people, just get the houses built.

Good plan

I support the move to relocate the St John Ambulance's central station (News, March 28). Staff say lives could be at risk if management pushes ahead with plans to replace its central station. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that two locations are better than one if anything it should quicken up response times. And to say that the roads are too busy in these locations doesn't cut with me.

They are busy because they are on the main trunk line and you can get anywhere in the city fast - and that's the point of the whole relocation issue, isn't it?

I think management has come up with a good idea to reduce response times. Nobody likes change but if it's for the better good of service, isn't it worth it?
