I read that our city council has applied for some excellence awards. (Council's 'cutting-edge' strategies make award finals, June 14).

Looking around our city, I wonder what the awards could be for?

Is the unused cycle way through the city something to be proud of?

Is it for the way they bulldozed our City Focus?

Is it for a half million dollars ornament for the centre of a roundabout?

Not happy with award recognition

What a joke.

It is a city of empty shops and derelict amenities.

Where is the theatre? Where is the museum? Where is the Lakeside cafe and theatre?

Rotorua is the city of lost opportunity and for that alone, the Rotorua Lakes Council should be sacked and the mayor hung out to dry.

Yellow Pages not wanted

I have tried to opt out online from the Yellow Pages for the last two years.

Last year I ran across the road and gave it back to the deliverer. I returned from town today and there it was waiting for me. If I want to know something I Google.

It's going straight in my recycle bin along with the plastic bag it comes in.

Some businesses need to listen to me and respect my wishes.
