In reply to George Barnes letter ( September 27), We agree that maybe the Rotorua Library be renamed in honour of Aunty Bea Yates as perhaps the "Bea Yates Rotorua Memorial Library" or "Bea Yates Memorial Library".

Aunty Bea did so much for Rotorua with raising the money for the Rotorua Hospital dialysis machines and the buildings that provide the treatment, money she raised for the different charities she gave away from her Tina Tuna acts, feeding our rangatahi to make sure they had a full puku before classes, welcoming our tourists through song and dance, the children's books she wrote, and much more. She was well known to most of us and loved by so many.

We changed the name of the Civic Centre to the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre, and he was a performer who was from Rotorua and known around the country, but we don't know that he did as much as Bea did for this town.

We think to have a place named after her and someone we want to remember forever would be really nice. She should have been made a Dame in acknowledgement for everything she has done. Rotorua Lakes Council, are you listening and would you consider this idea?

Affordable housing

Well done on the Government for regulating the housing sector a bit more. Each property speculator who leaves New Zealand is another step in the right direction.

Basic economics tells us that the price of housing will fall when speculators sell. Yippee!

Airport weather

I have no issue with making the airport earthquake safe and giving it a revamp while you're at it.

What I have got an issue with is that there needs to be some sort of system in place so planes can land and take off in wet and cloudy weather.

It makes no sense having the flashest airport on the block with no passengers being able to use it because of bad weather.

In my opinion, you are putting the cart before the horse. I'll even go further and say until you get a system in place you're not going to make any money. Passengers need the security of knowing they are going to land or depart on time not being bused to and from Auckland and Hamilton and missing connecting flights.
