A reader has suggested [Saturday, June 16] the only way to pay for parking under the new system being introduced in Rotorua's CBD later this year will be via a smartphone app. This is not correct.
As reported in your paper, an app will be an additional payment method butcurrent methods, including coins, will still be available. People will also be able to use credit/debit cards.
It will be a paperless system so people will not have to display a ticket on their car dashboard. They will simply enter their number plate and select their payment method and estimated parking time.
As with any change, it may take some people a little while to become accustomed to the new touch-screen system but it should ultimately be easier to use with people able to choose the payment method which is most convenient for them.

I was pleased to note that the "Our People" Jill Nicholson's article, in Saturday's Rotorua Daily Post has continued and not succumbed to the recent changes in the paper.
I find it so wonderful to be able to read about the positive input by special people in our community, doing their thing.
Negative news encourages negative thinking which seems to be so prevalent these days. Time to cheer up a tad.
This brings me to another Rotorua Daily Post staff asset. Both Stephen Parker and Ben Fraser are gifted press photographers. Stephen hugely rewarded for his prowess and Ben being fortunate to have such a mentor and with splendid skills that are emerging.
Has anyone noticed the camber on the new roundabout at the Old Taupo Rd and main road by the polytech?
Forget the statue that seems too difficult to make, have a good look at trucks and buses that go through.
The same problem occurs at the Tarawera - Redwood roundabout on Te Ngae Rd.
At that roundabout trucks have shed their loads. So I assume it is only a matter of time before the first load is lost at this latest creation. Also I bet this is before the monolith is installed.
