So very sorry to hear of the passing of Mita Mohi.

I enjoyed the times we played rugby together. Always a mutual friend whenever we met through life and warm greetings.

He was also a kaumatua of Waiariki Polytech and we greeted each other there on several occasions.

A real humanitarist was Mita and outgoing and helpful to all. I lament his passing.

Re Proposed Otonga Rd traffic lights.

They have a problem at Otonga School twice a day for about half an hour so let's splash out quarter of a million dollars. What price a child's life says Linda Woon ... okay let's drain Lake Rotorua in case some kid gets drowned.

I walked 3km to and from school when I was 5 yet these days seemingly every child has to be picked up by someone driving one of those monstrous bloated SUVs, the congestion is the problem, lack of visiblity, impatience.

Plus has anyone ever seen how traffic lights are treated in this town? Try sitting at the lights by the Boys' High School. You are on Old Taupo Rd heading towards Koutu corner.

At every single light change (not occasionally) you have a green light it is impossible to proceed because for a couple of seconds there are still trucks, vans, cars even a bus crossing in front of you. Running red lights is an epidemic in Rotorua.

My wife got T boned at the Otonga intersection when it was a stop sign .. Putting in lights would be a return to that scenario.

To my way of thinking this council shouldn't contemplate spending a single penny until they start addressing our massive debt and if this idiot proposal were to go ahead how long before every other school in Rotorua wants similar?
