Thank you for your featured article in Saturday's 48 Hours section regarding Star Wars Canyon.

In the 1990s my husband and I and our eldest daughter were meandering through the highways and byways of the USA as we had the habit of doing.

While heading down into Death Valley we too experienced this "mind blowing" experience. Having stopped to take in the view and read the inscription on a monument to one of the early missionaries of the area, we first heard the noise and then saw the jet. No one else there except us and the wildlife. Was that really what we thought it was?

Upon returning to New Zealand our often recounted tale has usually been met with smiles and polite disbelief. Now at last we have the written proof. This will be one piece of newspaper that will be going into the souvenir box.

Scooter user's day ruined

On Saturday April 22, my wife ventured on her new invalid buggy from Selwyn Rd to the Sequoia Eatery at the bottom of Tarawera Rd, Lynmore. After the usual superb fare there we went back home, me on foot on the pavement and her on her buggy. Before we reached the turning to Lynmore Ave which is barely 200m and travelling in the cycle right of way, my wife was loudly tooted by a truckie, and then a car with four yobs in it passed and she heard very clearly one occupant shouting at her to "get off the road".

From my pavement I could see that at no time did she transgress from her lane and she was shocked by these examples of very bad manners. As a result she is unlikely to attempt that trip again. What examples of idiocy on the road.

Thank you truck driver and particularly those car occupants for ruining an attempted special day out.
