In the revamp of the area outside the library and Te Manawa new bench seats were provided.

Unfortunately the design included metal pieces at one end I can only describe as gin traps.

Following an injury to a child the three seats outside the library were removed but five at Te Manawa (one was so badly damaged by a vehicle it was removed) were not.

When I spoke to a council employee he said these five were not considered a danger.

How can a danger in one area not be a danger in another?

Surely this is a health and safety issue staring us in the face.

Nurses worth it
I spent a large part of the day recently at the day surgery Rotorua hospital.

The staff there were marvellous - especially the nurses. They started before 7am and I heard two of them at 2pm saying they were going to lunch. Is this not devotion to duty?

Had Winston Peters not given hundreds of millions of dollars in extra aid to the Pacific Islands, there may well have been more money to allow nurses to catch up and get somewhere near to what they should be earning.

National must take most of the blame for allowing this to happen.

Come on Labour, find the money.

Key moment
I would like to thank the lady who retrieved the keys I had left in the door of my car (senior moment) last Thursday, and also the teller from ANZ Bank who advised her to take them to the security in the mall.

After some very stressful retracing of my steps, I received them from a very nice watchman.

It is heart-warming to know there are still some honest and helpful people out there.

Thank you so much.
