While filtering through the latest dropping of junk mail from the letterbox, I came across a bright blue flyer featuring two chipper middle aged white men next to a flyer from the local Indian takeout advertising their winter menu.
Both flyers mentioned that they did deliveries, however, it must besaid that the Indian takeout was far more transparent in what they could actually deliver.
The bright blue flyer mentioned that they are "Delivering for New Zealanders", I wasn't sure if I needed to wait by the mailbox for an impending delivery, or if I needed to place my order first.
After looking into it further, I discovered an order had already been placed about nine years ago, when the chipper men were elected into Government promising a "Brighter Future".
However, there were a couple items which I don't remember ordering. In 2008 you could rent the average Rotorua house for around $220 per week, whereas today, the same house with no insulation and no heating will cost you upwards of $360 per week.
I also don't remember asking for less resources for mental health services, but the sometimes three month wait to see a psychologist is what we got anyway.
So based on the two offers, the free roti I got delivered with my aloo gobi was a nice bonus, but the housing and mental health crisis delivered by the chipper white guys is something we could really do without, and after September 23, is something that they hopefully won't be in a position to deliver again.
