Letters: Cycle lane waste of parking space

I have never ever seen anybody riding a bicycle along the cycle lane on Hinemoa St so it is just a complete waste of parking space.

While the contractors are working amongst the City Focus renewal the council could extend their job to get along Hinemoa St and remove all traces of a bike trail and paint in parking lines. Any cyclists could then take their chances amongst other traffic like they do on other streets.

Have people all forgotten that motor vehicles pay for roads, not cycles?

We are excited to learn of a kaka back in Lynmore (Rotorua Daily Post, September 21) as three summers ago one was a regular visitor to our garden, happily sitting in the trees as we worked nearby and would in fact come close to us on lower branches.

Currently wood pigeon, tui, and, at night, moreporks are providing entertainment.

With all the recent publicity about boy racers causing carnage on the roads, we thought it may be a good time to bring some light to a situation that we're a bit confused about. We are neighbours in the area where a purpose-made skid pad has been installed on a block of private land, out in the country and well away from causing a nuisance to anyone.

The guys who run the skid pad are very responsible about safety and run a tight ship with rules and regulations to ensure everyone has a good time, stays safe, and most importantly, keeps their skids on the private pad instead of all over our highways and city streets and putting everyone at risk!

It seems the perfect scenario for the boy racers and car enthusiasts to have a constructive day out, and we hope the council will understand the benefits of this idea, and be able to come to an agreement where they may be able to get behind the funds and logistics to make the necessary resource consent possible.
