With all the fuss and problems finding night shelter for the homeless, there seems to be an obvious option, at least for the short term.
There is a fine, warm, roomy, safe building at 1061 Haupapa St, which belongs to the ratepayers of this district.
Open it up tonight use, properly supervised of course.
And that way Rotorua Lakes Council would be able to display what a caring and sensitive organisation they really are, despite recent indications to the contrary.
Tragedy waiting to happen I am somewhat perplexed by Kay Leamy's rather bizarre letter (Letters, July 24) in which she appears to be in awe of the little girls who left preschool on bikes (Local News, July 19).
Regardless of who gets the finger of blame pointing at them and what language this newspaper used, this was surely not an event to admire as Leamy appears to do with such positive language as: "... on an adventure", "used their initiative" and "they deserve top marks".
This was a tragedy waiting to happen for any one of several reasons. Surely we should learn from it, not celebrate it.
