Should Airbnbs be charged business rates?

Should Airbnbs be charged business rates?

I am shocked that the owner of a Bookabach home will have to pay business rates.

This is crazy and will mean that every rental home should be paying business rates, which will increase landlord costs and put rents up again.

Tourists spend big money in Rotorua and we need to encourage more, to spend time in our unique area, not discourage them.

This council policy of 100 days rental a year seems bizarre and I have never heard of it before.

Confused ratepayer.

Election debate

At the election debate Bill English put on a brave face. He knows that time is up for National.

If he still does not want to believe it, he should consult the Colmar Brunton political poll.

John Key realised this some time ago and jumped the sinking ship. With Bill's parliament experience he interrupted Jacinda Ardern whenever she said something he did not like.

Good to see that Jacinda is more behaved in this respect. Whatever the next debate will be like, I think the outcome is on the card.

Affordable housing

Great news for Rotorua but not a whisper regarding any initiatives for the much needed social/affordable housing our city so badly needs.
