Letters: Attitude towards equal rights for women is awful

I am absolutely appalled at the attitude in New Zealand towards women and equal rights/pay etc. Just what is the problem?

I have employed and worked with dozens of women in my working life, I do not know of any who did not pull their weight, and give as much effort as their male counterparts.

I know of many businesses operated by women that would put most men to shame with their industry and ability; I have never worked alongside any women that I have felt the need to say "keep up", most of them were well ahead.

There are women serving in all of the armed forces doing an equal job and risking their lives alongside men - even in the fire service!

I feel that any male CEO who employs women and does not pay them the same as their male counterparts should hang his head in shame, it is diabolical.

May I suggest that for a couple of days every woman working in New Zealand just stop what they are doing for one (or two) days, just to show these egotistical male counterparts of mine how much women contribute to the daily running of our lives. I know that I could not last long without the wonderful part my wife plays in the daily running of our lives!

Feel the price

On one hand, it was good to read the letter from Jean Glen of Wellington and how she enjoyed her stay in Rotorua (Letters November 14).

She also trusts that both the museum and SHMPAC are to be restored as soon as possible, then mentions feeling the spirit.

On the other as a ratepayer, it occurred to me that she should never mind the spirit, but feel the price!
