Lake Taupō boat fire under investigation after rescue from water

An investigation is under way after a fire on board a boat in Whangamatā Bay, Lake Taupō.

The boatie was rescued and taken to hospital.

A police spokesperson said they were called to Whangamatā Bay at 6pm after reports a person was overdue on the water.

“A Search and Rescue operation was commenced, and the boater was retrieved just before 8pm.

“The boater was transported to hospital.”

A spokesperson said there was a fire on board the boat which is being investigated.
