Lake Ōkataina: One dead after crash on State Highway 30

One person has died following a crash between a motorcycle and a car on State Highway 30, near Lake Ōkataina, Sunday afternoon.

State Highway 30 was closed for a period after police were called to the scene at about 1.15pm.

The motorcyclist has died, and the driver of the car was injured, but it the severity of their injuries in unknown.

The highway has since re-opened and a scene examination has taken place, a police spokesperson said.

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
