Labour's housing map: How Rotorua stacks up

The Labour Party has today released a comprehensive housing map, featuring information on how the housing crisis is affecting Rotorua, and other local communities.

The interactive map includes house prices, rent increases, homeownership rates, state house waiting lists and the number of empty state houses.

Rotorua at a glance
* It's getting harder to afford a home in Rotorua - The average price has risen 20.2 per cent, going from $273,000 to $328,000 in the last year. This is one of the biggest increases in the country.

* In the Bay of Plenty rents rose 9.5 per cent in the last year with the average rent price now sitting at $355. At the same time, incomes rose only 6.3 per cent.

* 408 houses have no heating

* There are 54 families on the waiting list for a state house. Meanwhile there are 23 sitting empty in Rotorua.

* Victoria has the lowest home ownership rate, sitting at 29.7 per cent, while Lynmore has the highest, with 81.1 per cent.

* The biggest fall in home ownership was in Selwyn Heights with a drop of 11.1 per cent. The largest rise was in Owhata West with an increase in home ownership of 2.3 per cent.
